Don’t forget….students in Concert, Philharmonic, Sinfonietta, and Honors will be performing at the annual UIL orchestra competition next month. We have been hard at work on these pieces, and will continue to work on polishing them for the contest throughout February. Each orchestra has a mandatory prep clinic that students must attend in order to be eligible to perform.
Concert Philharmonic prep clinic: February 23rd from 4pm-7pm.
Sinfonietta prep clinic: February 24th from 1pm-4pm.
Honors prep clinic: February 24th from 9am-12:30pm.
These clinics will be taught by Ms. Ruth Kurtis, one of the founders of the MISD orchestra program! Ms. Kurtis will be polishing and tweaking the performance in her own unique way, so it is imperative that every performer is at these clinics for their orchestra. This cannot be made up, so please make certain your student will be in attendance for their entire session.

Our solo & ensemble contest #1 is coming up on Saturday February 3rd. The contest will be held at Faubion Middle School.
Beginner orchestra students will perform a solo with piano accompaniment, while students in Concert, Philharmonic, Sinfonietta, and Honors orchestras will perform in ensembles. This is a summative grade! The schedule will soon be available.

Our 9th annual MOBC Play-A-Thon fundraiser is coming up on Saturday. Students from McKinney North, Cockrill, and Johnson will come together and perform for you! This is a fundraiser for our scholarship fund. Tickets will be sold at the door. $10 per person gets you all you can eat pancakes, sausage, milk and juice. Bottomless coffee is $2.
Students have received their performance times, so they only need to arrive about 15 minutes prior to their ensemble’s performance time. Of course, you may arrive earlier and enjoy pancakes! Once your student is done performing, they may leave.
Attire is orchestra t-shirt and jeans. Come and help support our scholarship fund! Please see this flyer for more info!

Just a reminder the Holiday Concert will be held at McKinney North High School on Monday, December 4th starting at 7:30PM in the auditorium. Performers will need to be in the uncasing area by 7:00PM in their concert attire.
Don’t forget that students can earn extra credit by attending the high school’s Holiday Concert which begins at 6:00PM. Students attending the high school concert can leave their instruments and music in the uncasing area and just enjoy the concert without any extra “stuff” with them.

Twice per year Dallas Strings has a big sale for their current student rental customers. They give generous discounts on their purchases, and this is a great opportunity to buy an upgraded instrument for your student. We don’t recommend buying an instrument if your student is still in a smaller sized instrument, only if they are in a full sized instrument. However, this is the best time of the year to get a great deal on a new purchase!

Our next concert is coming up on December 4th at 7:30PM. All orchestras will be performing at this concert. Rehearsal information has gone home with kids via hard copy this week, but here is the same info electronically!
Beginner Full Rehearsal – 11/27 3:45-5:30PM
All beginners will rehearse together at school in the cafeteria. Home cellos/basses are needed and everyone needs to bring their home music stand.
Dress Rehearsal at MNHS Auditorium – 11/28
All orchestras will have their dress rehearsal on 11/28. Please see the info below to see the specific rehearsal time. Concert attire is not required for dress rehearsals.
Concert/Philharmonic – 4:15-5:15
Sinfonietta – 5:15-6:00
Honors – 6:00-7:00
Beginners – 7:00-8:00
Concert Day – 12/4 7:30PM
