Thank you to all the parents that came to our meeting last night. There are multiple steps to be sure your student will be ready to start middle school orchestra next school year, so please click on the tab above “How To Join Orchestra” and follow those steps.
The main step right now is to be sure your student has orchestra as their #1 elective choice on their registration form for Cockrill. The second main step is to sign up for an appointment for your student to try out and choose an instrument. Click here for the signup website to choose your time.

If you have an incoming Cockrill 6th grader, please be sure to attend our parent meeting on Thursday, February 23rd at 7PM. Cockrill is hosting an incoming 6th grade registration meeting at 6PM, so please come over to the orchestra room after that meeting and we will be happy to introduce you to our program and give instructions for the next steps. We want to welcome you to our program, and answer any questions you have. We have two rehearsals for all the 7th/8th grade students performing in the Elementary Recruiting Tour. The tour is during the school day on Friday, January 20th. The rehearsal dates are Wednesday January 11th and January 18th from 4-6PM in the cafeteria. All students who want to go on the tour need to attend both of the rehearsals!! We will be going to lunch after the tour, at a location to be announced. The McKinney Orchestra Booster Club will cover the cost of the lunch for students! A flyer will be going home later this week with more specific information.
Our next Orchestra social event is to go see the CMS Theater’s production of School of Rock! Please join us next Wednesday, November 9th to support our friends performing in this awesome musical.
Tickets are $5 and include an In-n-Out Burger (or grilled cheese) meal! You can pre-purchase tickets from any drama student, or purchase tickets at the door. This should be a really fun night, and we’d love to have a huge Orchestra cheering section in the audience!
The show begins at 7pm, but eating yummy burgers begins at 6pm. We will take an estimated head count on Monday so In-n-Out knows how much food to prepare, and we know how many seats to reserve.

The auditorium doors will open at 6:20 pm. In the lobby, we’ll have some samples set up for our upcoming fundraiser. Parents, be sure to stop by and check them out while you wait for the concert to begin at 7pm. Fundraising sales packets will go home with everyone tomorrow.
Tonight’s performance is being professionally recorded, so once you get in the auditorium, please put away cell phones, iPads, and other lightmaking/noisemaking devices. Every group on stage has worked hard to deserve our full undivided attention tonight! 🙂
In case you didn’t get the flyer from your student, information about our upcoming CMS fine arts Six Flags trip went home yesterday. It will be Saturday, 10/22 and the cost is $40.
